Nostalgic Elegance On The Nile In First Class Comfort And StyleImagine sailing down the Nile on a magical sailing ship that could have come straight out of an Agatha Christie film. Sitting out on the deck and enjoying amazing views whilst cruising leisurely down the banks of the Nile aboard the first ever five star Dahabeeyah sailing ship.
Well, Lee Allan has now made this dream a reality by making his cruise ship, The Princess Donia, available for private charter. "I believe there is nothing like this on the Nile. There are a number of Dahabeeyah sailing ships in existence at the moment - some original ones that are over one hundred years old and replicas of varying quality - none offer the luxury that we do." said Lee.
Dahabeeyah translated means Golden Boat in Egyptian. They were originally used by kings to travel on the Nile, and are beautifully crafted twin-masted sailing ships. The five-star Princess Donia aims to give guests a more than luxurious stay. It is 36m long and has four en-suite cabins, a very large Suite complete with it's own terrace. There is also a spacious salon lounge with bar and a 24m sundeck.
"I think it is very important that guests can have the comfort of five star luxury, said Lee." I decided to have one designed and built to include essentials such as air conditioning, power showers, flat screen TV's as well as an internet connection. I want our guests to experience the mystery and magic of the Nile in comfort. I have travelled extensively enjoying 5 star cruises in both the Mediterranean and the Caribbean and my aim is to recreate the same standard of luxury and service on the Nile.
The cruises are between Luxor and Aswan and will call at all the tourist highlights, such as Esna, Edfu, Kom Ombo as well as some of the more unusual smaller villages that the larger ships can't access.
Guests are able to enjoy the most fabulous European and Egyptian cuisine, which will be accompanied by quality wines. It is a very romantic ship in a romantic setting. Guests will actually be able to reach down and touch the Nile as they sail in a wonderful tranquil silence and see sights that haven't changed for a few thousand years - yet with all the modern comforts that first class travel offers.
